All About Rocker Sole Shoes – RYN, MBT, Skechers Shape Ups & Reebok Easy Tone Comparison
www.totalrelieffootwear.com Unstable or Stable? Which type of rocker sole shoe is the best for you? Store owner Cam White discusses the benefits of rocker sole shoes and provides tips for selecting the right shoe for you. The opinions expressed in this video are solely those of the author, and are not intended to be a substitute for sound medical advice.
I would buy shoes from this gentleman.
Great explanation of rocker sole shoes! thanks!
@antinancy Podiatrists and orthopedists have long recommended rocker sole shoes for arthritic toe joints (hallux rigidus/limitus). The rigid 7-lay rocker design of Ryn and MBT shoes make them ideal shoes for people with ankle, mid-foot and toe arthritis.
@lyndoncjersey I don’t know enough about the Payless brand to comment.
I am not a fan of knock-offs and deep-discount shoes. Generally speaking, they are poorly built, and meant to be worn and replaced often. We send over 300 million pairs of shoes to landfills annually, according to the US Department of the Interior.
Quality shoes tend to feel good and last years, instead of months. In the long run, they are less expensive and a much better value than the “cheapos” sold in discount stores.
What about the toner shoes from Payless?
Rocker sole shoes are good for people who already have foot problems. Like me. Arthritis in my big toe basically crippled me until I got rockers. My dog is very happy about this.
@log6778 The real value of rocker sole shoes is that they protect the body against the repetitive impact of walking on concrete, tile and hard surfaces all day long. It’s not about about developing a firm, toned body without going to a gym.
If your feet feel better, you may exercise more. Being able to exercise more because you’re not in pain increases calorie consumption, which can result in weight loss. If these shoes make exercise do-able and fun, what’s your problem?
I pity anyone who wastes there money on this crap.
We’re not robots. Learn how to stand, walk, run, and sit with good posture and practice. Humans don’t need yoga balls and “rocker sole shoes” to be healthy. Count how many work hours it will take to buy those shoes and spend them exercising. You’ll find far more rewarding results.
Shoes are supposed to protect the feet and, in some cases, IMPROVE stability. That’s all.
@lankimanc (1) MBT shoes are still in the upper-price level in this category. Most current models range between $235 – $270 (2) Authentic MBT shoes are still well-built, although many wearers report that the current models don’t last as long as the original Korean-made MBTs manufactured before 2007. Beware MBT knock-offs. They are cheap counterfeits manufactured illegally in China.
Hi, thanks for a simple yet detailed presentation; I’ve been looking for clarity on the subject of rocker sole shoes. I do have a couple of questions about MBT’s. 1) do you consider MBT’s in the lower-price category? 2) what is your opinion of the quality and lifespan of MBT’s since the company was sold? I appreciate your insight. Thanks.
@bobwow1 Thanks, I’m glad you found the information helpful.
@steven101x1 The rigid, 7-layer construction of Ryn and MBT shoes promotes a smooth, rolling toe-off, instead of a harsh toe bend. This can be extremely helpful for people with Hallux Rigidus, or limited range of motion in the big-toe-joint. These shoes are routinely prescribed by podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons for hallux rigidus. Consult with your physician to see if these shoes are appropriate in your case.
Will these shoes help treat Hallux Rigidus?
Wow. This is the best product information I have seen. Very well done Mr. White; thank you.
@ubuu7 I’m not aware of any lower-priced rockersole shoes on the “stable” side of the category. I definitely do not recommend “unstable” rockers on hilly, bumpy or uneven terrain.
Glad I found this video, very informative. I really want to try the ryn shoes but dropping 300 dollars is out of my budget atm. I was interested in the sketchers shape ups but based off your descriptions about walking on uneven surfaces (I intend to use them for walking on some hilly terrain) it would seem the stable forms would be better… but the more budget brands listed are all based on the unstable form. Are there any lower tier Stable rocker sole shoes out there? (sub 200, pref 100-150)
I am glad you found the article helpful.
@WalkWithoutPain Checked out your website and looked at the MBT vs. RYN article. AWESOME info and very well written. You’ve made my choice much easier. Thank you!
A flat-footed person will definitely roll inward, making it much harder to control an unstable shoe.
I definitely recommend a stable shoe, such as Ryn, with an orthotic to help correct your tendency to over-pronate. I would also recommend you try this in a store to make sure your gait is evaluated and to ensure maximum comfort.
An unstable rocker sole shoe (MBT, Skechers) is probably not for you.
Hello! I am an avid researcher of products being a careful consumer. Thanks so much for posting this video. I am currently in the market for rocker-sole shoes as well. I would like to be clear; you suggest that people who have flat feet/low arches/over-pronation should look at STABLE rocker-sole shoes first, correct? My feet are as flat as a board and I tend to roll on my ankle. All the heels on any shoe I have are lopsided and worn down more on the outside. Can these shoes help us flat-foots?
That really depends on your body’s ability to control an unstable shoe. If you have loose ligaments or weak ankles, a shoe like RYN or Mephisto Sano may be a bettter choice.
I think Skechers and MBTs are best suited for flat, level surfaces. I’m not comfortable wearing unstable shoes on uneven terain.
can you recommend like sketchers shape ups for men? I mean I always wear converse but i’m just curious about shapes up. I know they have for men but do you really recommend for it? or leave those shoes for girls?
@brillig1313 I am glad you enjoyed the review. This category of footwear is going to help a lot of people. Knowing which type to buy really depends on how your body travels.
I am currently in the market for a pair of rocker sole shoes, and am deciding between brands. This video was interesting and informative, thanks very much for posting it. There is so much SUPER biased info on the internet that it was ni
I bought a cheap pair of Skechers rocker sole shoes at the mall and have fallen in love with them. I don’t know what I ever did without them!
